POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS
Do you know…
that a total of 65,000 Singapore residents have postgraduate qualifications? The number with postgraduate diploma, masters degree or doctorate has increased by 4 times during the last decade, from 13,000 in 1990.
Among those with postgraduate qualifications, males out-number females. For every 100 males with postgraduate qualifications in 2000, there were 54 females with similar qualifications.
In 2000, slightly more than one-third of the postgraduate population obtained their higher qualifications in Singapore, down from 44 per cent ten years ago. There were also proportionately fewer persons with postgraduate qualifications from the United Kingdom and United States in 2000 than 1990. In contrast, Australia grew in popularity as a destination for postgraduate studies among Singapore residents. With the entry of highly qualified permanent residents in recent years, the proportion of Singapore residents with postgraduate qualifications from India and China has increased.
