The estimation procedures for households have been improved by using multiple expansion factors catering to different population groups to gross up the data rather than a single expansion factor used previously. Household ownership of washing machines, air-conditioners (Air-Cond), cars/station wagons and personal computers (PC) have generally risen over the past three decades. The ownership of washing machines grew rapidly through the 1980s and 1990s. The rate of growth in ownership of personal computers was the highest among the group of consumer durables between 1992 and 2008.
