Singapore official statistics span a wide spectrum of subject matters. These include statistics on the trends in the general economy and population, development of specific industries, activities of companies and businesses, the cycles of people’s lives from birth to death and their experiences in work and recreation. Within Singapore’s decentralised statistical system, these statistics are compiled by the Singapore Department of Statistics, as well as other public organisations which have administrative responsibility over specific sectors or subject matters.

A wealth of statistical information have been accumulated on different subject matters, whether through statistical surveys or as by-product of public administration. The activities to collect, compile, analyse and disseminate the statistical information have expanded significantly in the public sector as the demand for and usage of official statistics have been rising over the years. This is in tandem with the increasing recognition of the value of the official statistics in government planning, in business decision-making and in meeting the needs of societal understanding.
