Q: What are the hardware and software requirements for using E-Survey?

You should have an Internet ready Pentium class PC running on Win 9x/ME/2000/XP/NT4.0 platform and using either Microsoft Internet Explorer (v 4.x and above) or Netscape Navigator (v 4.x and above).

We recommend the following setup:

PC with Pentium II 300MHz processor or faster
64 MB RAM minimum (preferably 128 MB RAM)
Modem of 33.6 kbps or higher and Internet access
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP operating system
Netscape Navigator Version 7.x or Internet Explorer version 6.x. (If you are not using one currently, you can download them here).

Q: What are the necessary browser settings for accessing the E-Survey?

In order to access the E-survey service, please ensure that your web browser is configured with the correct proxy setting as well as JavaScript and SSL enabled. Your web browser must also support 128-bit cipher strength.

Q: How do I configure my browser to enable Javascripts?

In order to access the online survey form, please ensure that your web browser is configured to enable Javascripts.

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.x

  • Select View in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Click Security tab
  • For zone, choose Internet zone. Set the security to Medium.
  • Click OK

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.x and above

  • Select Tools in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Click Security tab
  • For zone, choose Internet zone. Set the security to Medium
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape 3.x

  • Select Options in menu
  • Choose Network Preferences
  • Click Languages
  • Check Enable Javascript

If you are using Netscape Communicator 4.x

  • Select Edit in menu
  • Choose Preferences
  • Click Advanced
  • Check Enable Javascript

If you are using Netscape 8.x and above

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Select Options
  • Click on Site Controls
  • Under Web Features, make sure the box beside Enable Javascript is checked.
  • Click OK

Q: How do I ensure the browser is SSL enabled?

For secure transmission of data, you need to activate Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) version 3.0 in your browser. 

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.x

  • Click View in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Select Advanced tab
  • Scroll down to Security and ensure that SSL 3.0 is checked
  • Click OK

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.x and above

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Select Advanced tab
  • Scroll down to Security and ensure that Use SSL 3.0 is checked
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape 3.x

  • Click Options in menu
  • Select Security Preferences
  • Select General tab
  • Check Enable SSL v3
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape Communicator 4.x

  • Click Communicator in menu
  • Select Security Info
  • Click Navigator
  • Scroll down and ensure that Enable SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) v3 is checked
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape 8.x and above

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Select Options
  • Click on Advanced icon
  • Expand the Security section
  • Make sure that the box beside Use SSL 3.0 is checked.
  • Click OK

Q: What is the correct proxy setting?

In order to access the secure site, please ensure that the proxy setting of your browser is correct.

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.x

  • Click View in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Select Connection tab
  • Click Advanced
  • Make sure the HTTP Proxy and Security Proxy are pointing to the proxy of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example: proxy.singnet.com.sg, port number 8080.
  • Click OK

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.x

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Select Connections tab
  • Under Settings click Advanced (if you dial up to Internet using a modem) or
  • Under LAN Settings click Advanced (if you are connected to Internet through LAN)
  • Make sure the HTTP Proxy and Security Proxy are pointing to the proxy of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example: proxy.singnet.com.sg, port number 8080.
  • Click OK

If you are using Internet Explorer 6.x

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Choose Internet Options
  • Select Connections tab
  • Under Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings (if using dial up modem), select the dial up connection and click Settings.
    Under Local Area Network (LAN) settings (if using LAN), click LAN Settings.
     
  • Under Proxy server, make sure the box beside Use a proxy server for this connection or Use a proxy server for your LAN respectively is ticked.
  • Specify the proxy server address and port number. For example, Address: proxy.singnet.com.sg, Port: 8080.
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape 3.x

  • Click Options in menu
  • Choose Network Preferences
  • Select Proxies tab
  • Check Manual Proxy Configuration
  • Click View
  • Make sure the HTTP Proxy and Security Proxy are pointing to the proxy of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example: proxy.singnet.com.sg, port number 8080.
  • Click OK

If you are using Netscape Communicator 4.x

  • Click Edit in menu
  • Select Preferences
  • Expand Advanced
  • Choose Proxies
  • Under Manual Proxy Configuration click View
  • Make sure the HTTP Proxy and Security Proxy are pointing to the proxy of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example: proxy.singnet.com.sg, port number 8080.
  • Click OK

 If you are using Netscape 8.x and above

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Select Options
  • Click on the General icon
  • Under Connection, click on Connection Settings button
  • Under the Manual Proxy Configuration fields, specify the proxy server and port number. For example: proxy.singnet.com.sg, Port 8080.
  • Click OK

Q: How do I know my browser supports 128bit Cipher strength?

In order to communicate with our web site in a most secure method, your web browser need to have a cipher (encryption) strength of 128bit.

If you are using Internet Explorer 3.x

  • By default IE 3.x does not support Cipher strength of 128bit. Please upgrade to the latest version by clicking on the link on top.

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.x and 5.0

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.x and above

  • By default, the browser supports 128-bit cipher strength

If you are using Netscape 4.x and below

  • Click on the Help option button at the top of the browser.
  • Click on the heading About Navigator or About Communicator
  • Look for a logo called RSA Secure. Your browser supports 128 bit if you see the following text:
This version supports U.S.
security with RSA Public Key
Cryptography, MD2, MD5,
RC2-CBC, RC4, DES-CBC,
  • If you do not see the above text or the text reads : This version supports International security with RSA Public Key, you will need to upgrade your Netscape browser.

If you are using Netscape Communicator 6 and above

  • By default, the browser supports 128-bit cipher strength

Q: How do I disable popup blocking?

In order to use the system, you must disable any popup blocking software installed in your PC temporarily while submitting the survey form online.

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP with Service Pack 2

  • Click Tools in Internet Explorer menu
  • Select Pop-up Blocker, Turn Off Pop-up Blocker

If you are using Netscape 8.x and above

  • Click Tools in menu
  • Select Options
  • Select Site Controls
  • Under the Site List tab, make sure the box beside Allow Pop Up Windows option is checked

If you are using Google IE Toolbar 4

  • Click the Settings button on the toolbar and choose Options
  • Select More tab
  • Uncheck the box next to Popup Blocker

If you are using Google IE Toolbar 3

  • Click Options button on the toolbar
  • Uncheck the box next to Popup Blocker

If you are using Yahoo IE Toolbar

  • Click the popup blocker menu icon
  • Uncheck the Enable Pop-Up Blocker menu item

If you are using other anti-spyware software such as Norton Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection, etc, please refer to the respective product documentation on disabling popup blocking or check with your network administrator.
