Singapore Food Agency (SFA) oversees the holistic management of food industry from “farm to fork”. This includes non-retail food establishments such as food manufacturers, cold stores, slaughterhouses; as well as food retail establishments such as hawker stalls, coffee shops, restaurants, cafes, takeaway, supermarkets, and food caterers.

Non-retail Food Establishments *
Refers to establishments where food is manufactured, processed, prepared or packed for the purpose of distribution to wholesalers and retailers. With effect from 2002 and prior to 1 Apr 2019, licensing of all food factories for distribution comes under the purview of Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore.
Food Shops *
Refers to establishments which are licensed to retail food businesses.
Food Stalls *
Refers to smaller compartmentalised units which are housed within a food shop.
Refers to retail shops that sell meat, fish, fruit, vegetable, poultry, egg or other article of food (cooked or uncooked) and other household items.
Private Markets *
Refers to markets (shops and stalls) licensed to private operators for the sale of meat, fish, fruit, vegetable, poultry, egg or other article of food (cooked or uncooked).
