DOS Academy

DOS Academy DOS Academy was established in 2021 by the Department of Statistics to equip officers performing data/statistical work with data competencies and statistical skills across the data value chain for deeper data-driven policy analyses.

Statistics and Data Management Competency Framework

The Statistics and Data Management (SDM) Competency Framework comprises six functional competencies, each with five proficiency levels. It is designed with reference to the various aspects of the data value chain and Statistical Best Practices (SBP). To complement the SDM Competency Framework, officers can leverage our comprehensive learning roadmaps which provide targeted learning recommendations to develop their competencies and address identified gaps.

Knowledge Exchange and Learning Resources

DOS Academy collaborates with WOG agencies to share interesting statistical and data projects, facilitating cross-agency learning. It provides a platform to share data related innovations and expertise across WOG. In addition to external partnership, we also work closely with our in-house subject matter experts to deliver presentations on topics across the data value chain to uplift statistical competencies across WOG.

DOS Learning Day

DOS Academy also hosts one of DOS’s key events, the annual DOS Learning Day, bringing together DOS Advisory Panel Members, WOG officers, and private sector experts to share insights on a different theme every year.

Foundation Courses for New Hires

DOS Academy conducts various compulsory courses designed to equip our new hires with essential skills and knowledge, including foundational training in statistical best practices, statistical methodologies, standards and classifications, as well as guidance on the Statistics Act. These training sessions allow our new hires to assimilate into their roles and perform their duties effectively.

Varied Learning Pathways

As part of DOS’s continual efforts to build deeper expertise, DOS has partnered with Institutes of Higher Learning such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) to develop professional certification programmes, which offer structured pathways for officers to enhance their analytical capabilities and statistical programming competencies.
