Transport

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is responsible for Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, International Maritime Centre (IMC) Champion, and National Maritime Representative.

Statistics on vessel traffic, cargo volumes and other port activities within Singapore port waters are collated by the MPA.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS)’ roles are to enable the growth of the air hub and aviation industry, oversee and promote safety in the industry, provide air navigation services, and develop Singapore as a centre of excellence for aviation knowledge and human resource development.

Following the corporatisation of Changi Airport on 1 July 2009, the operations of Changi Airport, including the collection of data on passengers, airfreight, airmail and aircraft traffic passing through Changi Airport and Seletar Aerodrome, are managed by the Changi Airport Group Pte Ltd (CAG). Statistics on passenger, airfreight, parcel mail and aircraft movements are compiled by the CAAS from the data collected by the CAG.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Transport, which spearheads land transport developments in Singapore. The land transport network has transformed significantly since the inception of LTA in 1995.

Statistics on land transport in Singapore come under the purview of the LTA.

Public Transport Stop

Refers to a designated area for boarding/ alighting public transport vehicles which include the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), buses, private hire cars and taxis.

Road Traffic Accident Casualties

Data on road traffic accident casualties are compiled from police records of fatal and injury traffic accidents that occurred on the roads of Singapore.

Arterial Roads

Major arterial road predominantly carries through traffic from one region to another, forming principal avenues of communication for urban traffic movements. It interconnects expressways and minor arterial as well as with other major arterial roads.

Minor arterial road distributes traffic within the major residential and industrial areas. It is planned to optimise circulation within the area and facilitate through traffic between adjacent towns.

Expressways

Expressways form the primary network where all long distance traffic movements should be directed. It is planned to optimise long-distance mobility from one part of Singapore to another.

Local Access

Refer to roads that give direct access to buildings and other developments and should connect only with primary access.

Primary Access

Primary access roads form the link between local accesses and arterial roads. It provides access to developments and through traffic is discouraged. However, where a development is also accessible by a local access road, the access shall be located at the local access road.

Cruise Passenger Throughput

Refers to the sum of all embarking cruise passengers (i.e., those who arrived in Singapore by air or land but departed on a cruise), disembarking cruise passengers (i.e., those who arrived on a cruise ship but departed by other means) and full-cruise passengers (i.e., those who arrived and departed on the same cruise ship). The numbers include all cruise passengers who are international travellers, Singaporean citizens or permanent residents.

Singapore Registry of Ships

Refers to the total number and tonnage of vessels registered under the Singapore flag.

Total Container Throughput

Refers to the total number of containers (expressed in Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) loaded and unloaded at the Port of Singapore. The figures include transhipment containers.

Total Cargo Throughput

Refers to the total volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the Port of Singapore. The figures include transhipment cargo.

Vessel Arrivals

Refers to the number of vessels exceeding 75 Gross Tonnage that arrive at the Port of Singapore.
