Definitions

Data refer to the relative share of compensation of employees to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices compiled from the income approach.

Concepts

The income-based GDP is defined as the sum of compensation of employees, gross operating surplus and taxes less subsidies on production and on imports.
Analytical framework: The System of National Accounts (SNA) is used as the overall conceptual framework. Singapore has adopted the major recommendations of the 2008 SNA.
Note: Labour shares are affected by many factors and country-specific conditions. Singapore's lower labour share could be due to the openness of our economy, high capital intensity and large number of regional headquarters located here.

Computational Method

(Compensation of employees) / (Income-based GDP at current prices) x 100%,
where both the numerator and denominator should be based on the same reference period.
