Definitions

Data refer to the number of female representatives from elected Members of Parliament (MPs), Non-Constituency MPs (NCMPs) and Nominated MPs (NMPs), expressed as a percentage of the total number of Members of the Parliament.

Concepts

Data comprise of the respective groups' representative from elected Members of Parliament (MPs), Non-Constituency MPs (NCMPs) and Nominated MPs (NMPs), who are collectively known as MPs henceforth, and are based on the start of each Parliament term, which is up to 5 years. A MP has to be a Singapore citizen aged 21 years and above, among other requirements as set out in Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore. The current constitution allows for: (i) Up to 12 NCMPs; and (ii) Up to 9 NMPS who will serve for a term of 2.5 years.
Data from 2012-2015 are based on the start of the 12th Parliament term. Data from 2016-2019 are based on the start of the 13th Parliament term. Data from 2020-2024 are based on the start of the 14th Parliament term. Data from 2025 are based on the start of the 15th Parliament term.
