Definitions
Data refer to the proportion of population with access to improved drinking water sources.
As defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO), improved drinking water sources refer to water sources that, by nature of construction or through active intervention, are protected from outside contamination. These include piped water into premises, protected dug well etc.
Concepts
This indicator tracks the proportion of the population that is using an improved drinking water source, that is: located on the premises; available when needed; free of faecal and priority chemical contamination.

Data Collection
100% of Singapore's population is served with piped water. Only less than 50 villagers on Pulau Ubin island are not served by piped drinking water.
PUB also has a rigorous regulatory framework that stipulates requirements for the (i) design and maintenance of water service installations; and (ii) protection of water infrastructure from damage and misuse.
The regulatory framework is underpinned by the Public Utilities Act and its subsidiary legislations, and the SS636: Code of Practice for Water Services.
