Definitions

Data refer to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) share of manufacturing in chained (2015) dollars.

Concepts

The gross value added measures the contribution to the economy of each individual producer, industry or sector in a country. GDP represents the sum of gross value added from all institutional units resident in the economy.

Analytical framework: The System of National Accounts (SNA) is used as the overall conceptual framework. Singapore has adopted the major recommendations of the 2008 SNA.

Computational Method

(Real manufacturing value added) / (Real GDP) x 100%,

where both the numerator and denominator should be based on the same calendar year.

The computation makes use of the property that the CVM estimates are additive in the reference year and the year immediately after the reference year, and requires re-referencing the CVM series by shifting the reference year to the previous year as part of the working (i.e., 2024's real share is computed based on the CVM series re-referenced to 2023, 2023's real share is based on CVM series re-referenced to 2022).
