About one per cent of Singapore's land area is used for agricultural purposes. The agri-food sector of Singapore is engaged mainly in the production of eggs, seafood and vegetables for local consumption. As of end-2021, there were 150 land-based food farms and 110 sea-based farms.
Seafood production comprises mainly aquaculture produces from fish farms, with small quantities from local capture fisheries. Singapore also imports, exports and tranships fish caught by foreign vessels. For sea-based farms, the majority are sited in the Straits of Johor, with two deep sea farms in the Southern Waters. These farms culture various fish species like milk fish, mullet, snappers, trevally, groupers, tilapia, pompano, threadfin and seabass for the live fish market and supermarkets. Singapore also produces small quantities of shrimps and crabs like mud and flower crabs.
Singapore also produces non-food agriculture items such as orchids, ornamental and foliage plants (such as potted plants, foliages, ornamental plants, aquatic plants and tissue-cultured plantlets) and ornamental fish for export and domestic markets. Singapore is a global exporter of quality cut orchids and ornamental fish.

Footnotes
From 1 April 2019, Singapore Food Agency took over food-related functions previously carried out by former Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore, National Environment Agency, and Health Sciences Authority. From 1 April 2019, National Parks Board took over non-food, plant and animal related functions previously carried out by former Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority. The decrease in local production of seafood, fish and leafy vegetables in 2020 was largely due to farms adjusting their output due to lower sales during the COVID-19 period. The decrease in local landings of seafood in 2020 was due to fewer trips made by fishing vessels during the COVID-19 period.
